Boca Raton Gumbo Limbo Center: Fun for the whole family.
The Gumbo Limbo environmental center in Boca Raton is an educational center that is fun for the whole family. Take a walk on the ¼ mile Boardwalk Trail and see the preserved tree hammock. The preserved area in the tree hammock is reminiscent of ecosystem that used to flourish in South Florida. Climb the 40 foot observation tower and get a tree top view Boca Raton’s intracostal waterway and the Atlantic Ocean.
Gumbo Limbo Nature center has several exhibits to see inside the welcome center. The exhibits include a Sea Turtle Garden, a gopher turtle exhibit, a sea turtle safe lighting exhibit, a rain barrel, solar exhibit, and a butterfly nursery. The welcome desk always has volunteer staff members that can answer any questions about Boca Raton’s Gumbo Limbo Nature center, and their programs.
The Outdoor Aquarium at Gumbo Limbo hosts 4 saltwater tanks that represent the different Florida marine habitats. Two tanks are shallow and host intracostal/mangrove life while the other two tanks host deep-water marine life. These aquariums are in a state of continual change and keep evolving like the ocean and water-ways.
The Sea Turtle Rehab Facility has been operating since 2010. Gumbo Limbo has helped over 200 turtles return to the sea. Over 35 turtles have received surgery at Gumbo Limbo. Some of these turtles suffered from tumors near their flippers and eyes.
